Rokoro Anticipates Great Turn Out And Good Competition

Kabara and Rotuma’s pulling out of the Easter Shield championship has left 11 teams to battle the much anticipated annual cricket competition at Albert Park this week.
Defending champions Suva Warriors are in likewise for last year’s runners-up Suva Crusaders.
Regulars Moce, Lakeba, Nadi, Komo, Ono-i-Lau, Namuka, Oneata, Cricket Fiji Development, and Cicia make up the 11.
Speaking to SUNsports Cricket Fiji acting chief executive officer Sitiveni Rokoro is hopeful that good weather will bring out top cricket in the capital city.
“We were supposed to have 13 teams playing but Kabara and Rotuma have pulled out,” Rokoro said.
“All matches will be played on the two pitches at Albert Park for the convenience of players and spectators,” he said.
“While the big teams are bringing in competition, the underdogs and newcomers are determined to give them a run for their money.
“Teams to watch are the young and new teams like the Cricket Fiji Development side; they are raring to give the big teams a good run.
“We are expecting a huge turn up from the fans from tomorrow and the public holiday on Friday.
“Albert Park is central and convenient. There is also safe and good parking space for those with vehicles.
“On the same note we urge fans to come out in numbers to cheer for their teams.
“Cricket is an inclusive sport, a great day to come down with families and watch the games.”
According to Rokoro the last round will be on Saturday and that will be the decider for teams moving to the dying stages.
Eliminations and the final are on Monday
