Volleyball Is Inclusive: Gray

Fiji Volleyball Federation interim president Joe Gray says volleyball is a multiracial sport and is inclusive.
“We will include two new grades, the master’s category (30- 50 years) and 50 years upwards,” Gray said.
“We will also reach out to our fellow Fijians in the Indo-Fijians segment to be part of the community volleyball associations,” he said.
“That category could be listed under emerging or maybe invitational.”
Gray also hopes to diversify volleyball so that participation is expanded to those with disabilities.
He says it could be an opportunity for aspiring athletes to participate in regional and international sports events.
“Sitting volleyball is picking up popularity in the international arena. It involves the same number, which is six players but the space is smaller – for those with disabilities only,” he said.
“There are so many talents and this is one way we can be inclusive. Volleyball is a sport for all.”
The Fiji Hotel Workers Association is thriving in sports participation, as it has been well anticipated by stakeholders in the tourism industry.
“We are looking at incorporating that into business house competition and then maintaining consistency for an annual tournament.
He added that they have begun their campaign to get sponsors on board.
“We hope to secure a sponsor, Pacific Energy and a few other organizations that we will be tapping into.
“We’ve got Latifah Ali from London who has come forward offering monetary assistance towards Fiji volleyball.”
Ali, is from Morocco, and is married to Fiji born businessman Hamid Ali. They reside in London.
