Eight early childhood education teachers decided not to report on the first day of school.

These were new teachers posted to remote pre-schools.

However, Minister for Education Premila Kumar confirmed that the ministry was able to make the replacements immediately.

“One of the major issues we had on Monday was that eight teachers declined at the last minute to report at the respective schools being offered,” Ms Kumar said.

She said they managed to send other teachers to those schools on Tuesday.

The other matter the ministry dealt with was on rezoning.

“There were about three parents who moved to Suva recently and told us that they were looking for a space for their child,” she said.

“We have assisted them and accommodated their children. Overall the new school year had a smooth opening.”

She was hopeful for a great school term if natural disasters or more COVID-19 outbreaks do not happen.

Moreover she revealed there was no issue raised on e-ticketing and re-zoning so far.
