19-Year Old Opens New Business

A19-year old tertiary student yesterday launched her own business, a recycling company for plastic bottles.
Earth Wishers Recyclers, at Navakai, Nadi, will process used plastic bottles, aluminium cans, cardboard boxes, plastics trump, and metals.
The waste is received from resorts, before it is sorted and processed.
A recycling plant is expected to process the materials, which will be exported to New Zealand.
Funding
Shinam Kumar is a second-year university student who invested $20,000 in her business.
Ms Kumar was fortunate to have received a $20,000 Valentine’s gift from her father, Sanbhir Kumar.
Her father is a businessman, also in the recycling industry.
She teamed up with business partners, such as nearby hotels, schools and the wider business community to source raw materials.
Minister for Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport, Faiyaz Koya, officiated at the launch.
He said it was refreshing and encouraging to see youth particularly, young Fijian women like Ms Kumar, enter the business world with grit and determination.
He said the Earth Wishers Recyclers is an absolute need in this day and era.
“Proper waste management can help reduce pollution levels,” Mr Koya said.
“The tourism sector is also roped in by this newly-registered business, which is exactly the type of synergy for our innovative MSMEs.
“This is a great start and heading in the right direction.”
