Election Writ In A Month?

There is a possibility that the Writ of Elections could be issued in one month’s time.
This was revealed by the Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem while issuing strict instructions and outlining the Code of Conduct during the launch of the Presiding Officers training for the 2022 General Election at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka yesterday.
“We are now possibly one month away from the possible issue of the writ,” Mr Saneem said.
He told officers that the job they would be carrying out was important and it would have an impact on the next four years of this country adding this was no easy task.
He said one of the hallmarks of the General Election of 2014 and 2018 was the consistency with which polling officials handled voters in their venues.
“Lack of consistency can only come about if polling officials do not follow their manuals,” he said.
“These manuals have been developed after a thorough review of the past two general elections, consultations with international electoral experts, consultations with various bodies as well as our experiences and law reviews.”
He told election officials that many hours had been put into developing the manual and that was the confidence that they need to have before entering and managing the polling stations.
Mr Saneem reminded Presiding Officers they now must commit themselves to becoming elections officials and ensure they were apolitical.
