A feasibility study will be carried out soon to relocate the bus and carrier stands in Savusavu.

This was confirmed by the Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar.

She said there was a need for relocation to ease traffic congestion and reduce pollution.

“The relocation will also look into development of the area for more stakeholders to do business,” she said.

Savusavu Town Council Chief Executive Officer, Seema Dutt said the bus stand, carrier stand and taxi stand had always been where it was.

“However, the site was right in the center of the town,” she said.

“To beautify our town we need a feasibility study to understand which services shall be provided from where.”

“Our market vendors are facing difficulties carrying their produce from these areas to the market and to ease their transportation we need to think of a way whereby proper customer service can be provided by operators of public transport.”

She said the council was working on advertising a tender for feasibility study.

Another capital project the council was looking into through public private partnership was the construction of a multipurpose hall.

Mr Kumar said this would cater for all types of indoor sports.

“This will be for the development of our own youths and growth of sporting activities,” she said.

“Also installation of cameras through the town in partnership with the Savusavu Chamber of Commerce.”

She said this had already been advertised for procurement.
