Bowling Fiji’s preparation for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, is on track, says an official.

Speaking to SUNsports, Bowls Section manager Astral Smith said they are taking a 12-member squad.

Top bowlers of Martin Fong, David Aitcheson, Semesa Naiseruvati, Rajnesh Prasad, Kushal Pillay, Cheryl Edwards,Loreta Kotoisuva, Litia Tikoisuva, Losalini Tukai, and Elizabeth Moceiwai are training to win a spot for the Commonwealth Games, which is from July 28 to August 8.

“These bowlers are working hard to cement their spot in the final team to Birmingham,” she said.

“Some bowlers are based in the West so they do their own training. Training as a team is difficult because these bowlers live apart. That doesn’t dampen the spirit of these bowlers because they are seasoned players.”

Smith said the bowlers have been receiving a lot of support from the Suva Bowling Club members.

“They (members) turned up in numbers to give our bowlers a good game of bowls last Sunday. It’s good to see these bowlers are playing well and for now we are still waiting for the final squad to be named.”
