Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete met with staff from the Rakiraki, Tavua, and Lautoka Hospitals on Friday to discuss the transition to Health Care Fiji for the Ba and Lautoka Hospitals.

Dr Waqainabete said he also had discussions with Health Care Fiji Chief Executive officer Anette Owttrim regarding the transition of Lautoka hospital.

“We are now in the second phase in the transition, we looked at some of the concerns that staff had.

“We made it very clear that they were a very important part of the hospital regardless of whether they so choose to be with the Ministry of Health or to carry on with Health Care Fiji,” he said.

He said support options were also provided to staff if they were to confirm their intentions early, so the Ministry could look at ways to make them more comfortable such as offering them similar posts in Lautoka

He said long-term plans for the Lautoka Hospital included putting up a new hospital complex that would offer radiotherapy and high-end oncology services including the recently announced open-heart surgery procedures.
