Beach Soccer Finds Footing Here

FIFA beach soccer instructor Angelo ‘Mr Beach Soccer’ Schirinzi has set a target to lift the sport here.
Fiji Football Association started their first-ever beach football coaching course yesterday at the Fiji FA Academy in Vatuwaqa, Suva.
About 20 participants are part of the five-day course.
Speaking to SUNsports the Switzerland based- coach said he would help the local coaches set up competitions.
“Once they understand the dynamics they will enjoy the sport, sharing ideas is the start,” Schirinzi said.
“The participants undergo theory and practical sessions during this weeklong course,” he said.
“I will give share my experience and knowledge about beach football.
“It is exciting as this is the first for these coaches.”
Meanwhile, Fiji FA chief executive officer, Mohammed Yusuf, has urged the participants to learn as much as they can to lift the standard of football in their communities.
“We started beach football in Fiji way back in 2008,” Yusuf said.
“It is you the participants present here who will drive sport here in Viti Levu, Vanua Levu and the maritime islands.
“It’s a great occasion that we are able to get an expert on beach football over to share his knowledge. We are all eager to learn.”
Yusuf indicated that there is a possibility for Fiji to be part of the OFC beach football competition.
“We have the beaches; this can gain popularity here out in the islands. We just need to invest on some equipment.
“Our plan is to expand beach football in Fiji, there will be a facility in Ba and Labasa soon.”
