Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) will be undergoing an urgent repair, maintenance and upgrade works in the Western Division on Sunday, May 1.

EFL chief executive officer, Hasmukh Patel said this would affect power supply in the area.

Major works would be carried out on:

  • Vuda Substation,
  • Nadarivatu Switchyard,
  • Transmission Line Towers from Nadarivatu Switchyard to the Vuda Substation,
  • Sub-transmission line from Vuda to Naikabula and
  • Vuda to Rarawai transmission line.

Mr Patel said the works needed to be executed to ensure reliability and security of power supply to the Western Division of Viti Levu.

“To enable EFL to undertake the above works, EFL will de-energise the 132kV transmission line that transmits power from the Nadarivatu Switchyard to the Vuda Substation from 4am to 5pm on Sunday May 1, 2022 to allow our teams to carry out the necessary works,” he said.

“During this period, EFL will supply electricity from its Diesel Power Stations at Vuda, Qeleloa, Nadi, Sigatoka and Rakiraki to meet the electricity demand of our valued customers in the Western Division from Matanipusi Hill in Serua to Raviravi in Ba and Rakiraki CBD.”

Areas affected:

  • Part of Lautoka (Tomuka, Tavakubu, Saru, Tawatawa and Vaivai),
  • Raviravi Ba to Tavua,
  • Whole of Tavua and Nadarivatu,
  • Tavua to Navesau in Rakiraki apart from Rakiraki CBD

“Power supply to our remaining customers in the Western Division should not be affected unless there is a failure of any of our diesel generation sets, or in the event of any unrelated fault on the sub- transmission and distribution network,” Mr Patel said.

In the event the weather conditions are unfavorable, the exercise will be postponed.
