Game On, Elections Campaign Begins

It’s game on for political parties as the 2022 General Election campaign begins today.
It will end 48 hours before Election Day.
The Fiji Sun reached out to a number of registered political parties and got their reactions as they geared up to begin campaigning.
The People’s Alliance Party
The People’s Alliance Party leader Sitiveni Rabuka said his party was ready.
He said the process of finalising his party candidates were ongoing and they were in line with the programme set out by the Supervisor of Elections.
“We will make the announcement when we are ready to make the announcements as well as our manifesto and all other things,” he said.
“The manifesto we are holding it very close to our chest for as long as possible until we make an announcement because we don’t want other parties stealing our thunder.”
“We will be fielding 55 candidates.”
SODELPA
Social Democratic Liberal Party general secretary Lenaitasi Duru said the party would release its manifesto on Friday during their Special Management Board meeting.
They will also announce their first 20 candidates at the meeting.
UNITY FIJI
Unity Fiji leader Savenaca Narube said their campaign would focus on issues around the economy of the country and financial stability.
He said they had already prepared a campaign strategy which they would follow closely from today.
“Our campaign strategy has been developed and our manifesto has been finalized.”
“Our candidates are going through the screening process and we hope to announce the first batch together with our manifesto next month.”
“We are hoping to field the maximum number of candidates.”
