Sai Prema Foundation has spent $7 million, giving a new lease of life to 73 children from Fiji for the last seven years.

The foundation’s director, Dr Krupali Tappoo said their surgeries were performed by an international medical team from the United States of America, Australia, and India.

During the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital opening on Wednesday night, Dr Tappoo said over 20,000 patients have received medical treatment free of charge over three years in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

She said that since the inauguration of the South Pacific’s first Children Heart Screening Centre, it has screened over 450 children with congenital heart disease.

She said Sai Prema Foundation’s ‘Be a Hero Blood drive’ across towns and cities of Fiji was the highest blood collector for the Fiji National Blood Service for the past three years. It collected over 4000 units of blood.

Meanwhile, Sai Prema Foundation in Fiji and the Sri Satya Sai Sanjeevni Hospital in India have collaborated to build capacity and upskill medical professionals in Fiji.
