An estimated 8,000 arrivals were recorded this week alone as the tempo rises in the lead up to the Super Rugby playoff in Suva this weekend.

The estimation, according to Tourism Fiji, was based on what has been seen.

While most modes of commercial accommodation were said to be booked out in the capital city, bookings at Pacific Harbour are reporting solid numbers, Chief Executive Officer Brent Hill said.

“They may not be as busy as Suva, but certainly is a great option with the events this week,” he said.

The Super Rugby play off between the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and the Otago Highlanders coincides with a fashion show event in the capital city on Saturday.

The national stadium can cater for 15,000 spectators at any one time.

Suva Retailers Association said it was an exciting occasion and an overdue boost to the economy.

“Businesses are more than ready to serve,” he said.
