The Ministry of Health and Medical Services are currently undergoing upgrade works to improve health care services in nursing and health care facilities in the Northern Division.

Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, said upgrade works were being targeted at rural settings in the division to elevate health care services to its people.

Dr Waqainabete said they would also upgrade the Nabouwalu Sub-Divisional Hospital, which would cost the ministry around $2 million.

Conversion of Nursing Stations to Health Centre

He said the ministry had appointed Nursing Practitioners (NPs) in Bua, Kubulau and Bouma health centres.

Mr Waqainabete said their next project would be the conversion of the Naweni nursing station to a health centre with a qualified NP on site.

He also mentioned that major renovation works at Savusavu Sub-Divisional Hospital were being planned.

“The design phase of the renovation works was now in its completion stages,” he said.

Dr Waqainabete said many nursing and health centres in the division already had solar freezers installed while some health centres continued with this installment.

He said an alternative health centre had already been identified while construction work was being carried out at the new Dreketi health centre.
