Future Farms Private Limited (trading as Rooster Poultry) is reviewing its sponsorship contract with the Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua following their successful debut in the recent SuperW competition in Australia.

Skipper Bilita Tawake nailed it while summing up her victory speech. She made a strong statement while pointing to the logo on her jersey said: “Thank you Rooster Chicken for sponsoring us, Choose Rooster, Choose Quality.”

They beat four-time winners Warratahs 32-16 in the final.

Chief Executive Officer Stanley Raniga who was also at the AAMI stadium in Melbourne said: “The call-out from the captain (Tawake) was a surprise and very emotional.

“We felt the full appreciation of the team and we are so happy for them; for the sacrifices they have made to reach the very top of Super W,” he said.

“I was emotional and proud.”

Initially, Raniga said they did not hesitate to sponsor the Fijiana Drua because the company strongly believes in equal opportunity and women empowerment.

According to Raniga, 58% of their graduates hired on merit since 2016 are females. 83% of these women are in leadership roles at present.

“We have had to change mindsets that women can do everything a man can and often better than man at our workplace,” Raniga said.

“Initially we were very excited with the announcement that Fiji will have a team in the Super Rugby called the Fijian Drua,” he said.

“We were then informed that the women’s team was looking for sponsors.”

“We embraced the opportunity to support our women.”

“The sponsorship was unconditional. We wanted the team to do their best which they did.”

“We definitely want to continue the support. The sponsorship is currently under review.”

“Right from the start to us, there was no risk in our minds and we did not foresee any.

“Part of breaking the bias is to not even consider for a moment that sponsoring the women is riskier than sponsoring the men. We are very proud sponsors of the Fijiana Drua.”

The side is still in Australia to take part in the tri-nation – they face Japan on Sunday. They play the Wallaroos next Friday, May 6.

They return home soon after that to prepare for the World Cup in New Zealand in October and November.

“We wish the Fijiana all the best for the test matches against Japan and the Wallaroos and also for the World Cup in October and November; they have the potential to become world-beaters,” Raniga added.
