Women Continue To Up Skill Their Sewing Knowledge To Promote Fijian Made

Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre has praised the Fijian Made initiative and considered themselves proud to be registered for their Fiji Sewn license.
The Vocational Centre had renewed their license last year under the Fijian Made – Buy Fijian Campaign.
Manager, Shazna Khan said their involvement to the country through their sewn products was a way of contributing to future female entrepreneurs in society.
“The Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre has been discovering self-confidence, financial literacy and practical life skills for five years now with vocational learners,” she said.

“We encourage women to come on board and broaden their skills and knowledge in the sewing sector.”
Ms Khan said the women at the centre always looked forward to go out and promote the Fijian sewn products during expos and even on market days.
“These women have no sort of qualification or experience. Here, they get to learn for eight weeks about sewing,” she said.
“Some women do have some experience and they are able to upgrade their skills even more.”
Guided by a collective vision “Learn a Skill and Change Your Life” the centre offers skills based developmental opportunities such as cooking and pastry, tailoring and embroidery, hydroponics and caregiving to name a few.
The centre has 25 females in sewing and 19 females in cooking & pastry.
