Young eligible Fijians are encouraged to take part in the 2022 General Elections.

United Nations Senior Peace and Development Advisor in the Pacific, Agus Wandi made this comment at the ‘2022 Fijian National Elections: A Dialogue On The Issues That Matter’ event hosted at the Warwick Fiji in the Coral Coast on Thursday.

The two-day event on electoral issues was organised by Dialogue Fiji under the ‘Building Public Confidence in Elections in Fiji through Civil Society action’ project, funded by U.K Aid, and jointly implemented with International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance.

Mr Wandi said the UN highlighted that women played a critical role in participating in this year’s General Elections.

He said the UN was always keen to encourage more women to play a significant role and critical role in the General Elections or in any democratic process in Fiji.

“We see in the UN General Assembly regularly reiterating principles for respect to women about participation and encourage national policy makers, political parties as appropriate to really ensure that women could fully participate and there is no violence against women in politics,” he said.

The dialogue concluded on Friday.
