Tourism Fiji is working on estimated spending habits of tourists, following the success of arrivals last month.

It also projects the continuity of industry success this month, with an estimated 30,000 to 35,000 arrivals.

Major events
The arrivals would be owed to at least two major events in the West:

– Fiji Tourism Expo 2022 at Denarau, Nadi, from May 11-13, and

– the Super Rugby match between Chiefs and the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua in Lautoka at the end of the month.

The ongoing Fiji Fashion Week show and the reopening of Sheraton Resort and Spa Tokoriki Island are also expected to elevate activity in the tourism sector.

“The key though is the spend-per-tourist,” Tourism Fiji’s chief executive officer, Brent Hill, said.

“We’re in the process of researching that now.”

Best month ever yet
For some hoteliers, April marked their best month ever, Tourism Fiji said.

In Suva, hotels were booked to capacity, while Pacific Harbour was busy.

“I am delighted to hear that tourism properties like Marriott Momi Bay have had their best month ever in April,” Mr Hill said.
