His mother’s day gift this year is his achievement as Ratu Kadavulevu School’s deputy head boy.

Apenisa Cavuilati has been raised by his mother, Betty Cavuilati, for three years now after his father passed away.

“Today, I believe I have made my mother proud, at least; seeing a smile on her face is priceless,” he said close to tears.

“When dad passed away, it was my mother who took on the challenge of being both the father and mother in my life.

“It has not been an easy journey and to see her smile today with this achievement makes me happy.”

The Verata, Tailevu lad believed the journey to pay back his parents’ hard work begins now.

“To my mother and late father, I will work hard to make both of you proud,” he said.

Mrs Cavuilati was amongst happy mothers who were at the Lodoni school for the prefect induction ceremony in Tailevu yesterday.

“I’m so proud of my son for having to be the first in the family to take on the huge task at a legendary school,” she said.

“His grandfathers from both sides went to this school and left a legacy and today he sets a new par altogether.

“I have always taught my son spiritual teachings from the Bible and I believe that is going to help him a lot in his leadership role.

“What a gift this is,” Mrs Cavuilati said.

The Year 13 student would assist the head boy, Jonathan Matiavi to lead the near-800 students of the school this academic year.
