Wailoaloa visitors can enjoy the services of Nadi Airport Boat Club’s Fish and Chips Shop.

Former Melbourne resident Evelyn Vellun, and her brother Daniel, took over the running of the beachfront eatery.

Ms Vellu said the business venture was established for the interest of families that enjoyed picnics on the beach.

“We used to have a restaurant business in Nadi a few years ago, and now put that culinary acumen into this venture,” she said.

“Business is more family-oriented in Nadi.”

“For functions, the hall can be hired at a discounted rate.”

There are six people employed at the club.

Tidal Erosion Concerns
Club Commodore, Sunil Prasad, said members invested in a $15,000 facelift, with the major maintenance being tidal erosion.

“At the moment, we are looking for help from tyre companies, to assist us with the provision of used tyres, to build a sea wall.

“This project will be carried out this year.”

The restaurant opens daily from 10am – 10pm.

New Zealand Donation
A block of land was handed to the club trustees by the New Zealand government 75 years ago, following the successful completion of the construction of Nadi International Airport.

According to Mr Prasad, club officials visited local fishermen, seeking assistance in assisting in boat rescues for the area.

“We helped them,” she said.

“They gave us this block of land through Fiji Airports,” he said.
