About 100 women participants were part of the Inaugural Sustainable Livelihood Symposium at Uruone Village in Vanua Balavu.

The two-day symposium focused on improving the quality of life in villages and communities.

It was funded by the Global Environment Facility/Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP), Bank of the South Pacific and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The symposium was attended by women and villagers of Vanua Balavu with the theme ‘Breaking Barriers to Improve Sustainable Livelihoods.’

Mataqali Kuneabota committee Chairman, Eliki Boletawa said the initiative would have an economic and social impact on villagers.

“It serves as a source of hope and inspiration for people to work together as a community to improve their lives,” he said.

“Enabling gender equality and empowering women will be a significant development that will have a positive impact on the situation in the villages.”
