Ratu Suliano Matanitobua Trial Date Confirmed

The trial of SODELPA Member of Parliament Ratu Suliano Matanitobua will begin on May 16.
Ratu Suliano appeared before Judge Justice Thushara Kumarage at the Anti-Corruption High Court in Suva on Monday represented by lawyer Filimoni Vosarogo.
Ratu Suliano is charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption with one count of false information to a public servant and one count of obtaining financial advantage.
It is alleged that the MP breached the Parliamentary Remuneration Act of 2014 when they claimed travel and accommodation allowances, they were not entitled to.
The allegations were brought by the former Parliament Secretary-General, Viniana Namosimalua.
Ratu Suliano is alleged to have falsely statedthat his permanent place of residence was in Namosi village, Namosi, and allegedly obtained $38,378.22 between August 2019 and April 2020.
Ratu Suliano’s trial now starts from May 16 to May 20 with a one-week break from May 23 and May 27.
His trial will continue from May 30 to June 3.
Bail for Ratu Suliano has been further extended by the Court.
