Aspen Medical Responds To CETWUF Claims

A spokesperson at Aspen Medical has settled claims regarding members who work at the Ba Hospital being under-resourced.
The Construction, Energy and Timber Workers Union of Fiji (CETWUF) made the claims.
The claims came from the National Secretary for CETWUF, John Paul who said there were problems in getting an audience with Aspen Medical to discuss concerns raised by members who work at the Ba Hospital.
Mr Paul said the union’s membership expansion was for anyone who did not belong to any other union for any other industry, therefore this included members from Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, Lautoka, Nadi, Navua and Suva hospitals respectively.
“There are a lot of health and safety issues because they (Aspen Medical) have taken charge in managing the workers in Ba and Lautoka Hospitals and we want to see what is their role and what is their arrangement, the Ministry of Health is also quiet,” he said.
“We have been informed that the workers have been asked to provide their own aprons, chef material and then safety shoes, gloves and we want to see how they are taken care of, because if they have complained then we have to address it.”
The Aspen Medical Spokesperson responded to the claims and said: “Aspen Medical has an open-door policy and encourages employee feedback at both our Lautoka and Ba Hospitals.
“We can confirm that our Ba Hospital team is sufficiently resourced and that no member of our team has been asked to provide their own equipment.”
