The Civil High Court has granted an order for the United States of America to seize the $700 million superyacht Amadea.

High Court Judge Justice Deepthi Amaratunga yesterday granted the order sought by the Director of Public Prosecutions to register the USA warrant to seize the superyacht subjected to forfeiture.

The DPP, Christopher Pryde, filed an ex parte originating summons under the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act in the High Court.

The DPP also filed an application to register a warrant to seize the property and that a USA warrant to seize the Amadea be registered.

Defence lawyer for the registered company as owners of the yacht, Millemarin Investments Limited, Feizal Haniff sought an interim stay on the registration of warrant application until defence filed a proper application for stay of the order.

He said the interim stay for short-term protection before the application for stay was filed in court.

Justice Amaratunga has allowed the DPP to file the order of seal for registration and also gave time to defence to file their stay application.
