New Yat Sen Secondary School head prefects say they will lead students with love and compassion.

The school badged 62 prefects, including class prefects, school prefects, deputies and student council executives yesterday.

Head girl Adi Titilia Lagilagi said she wanted to lead by love and compassion because “to be able to have an understanding with the children because we don’t know what each student is facing at home that may be explained by some of their behaviour in school”.

“A leader should lead beside them to help them grow.”

The 18-year-old said being the head girl of the school had fulfilled her dreams and she was hoping to set a higher standard in the school with the help of other leaders.

Her message for other students was to not let others waiver their confidence and to work towards their goals.

Head boy Vincent Law, 18, said he was proud and honoured to be badged the head boy.

“Considering this is my last year in high school, I want to make a difference, I want to make a change and set my marks on the scores before I leave,” he said.

“Being a leader of a school is not easy, but it can be done with hard work.”

Vincent also scored the school’s highest mark in the Year 12 Examination.

The head prefects dedicated their achievements to parents, teachers, classmates and friends.

Both hope to pursue further studies in the medical field.
