More than $70million has been spent by the Fijian Government since 2014 to assist developments in the Nadroga/Navosa Province.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama revealed this during the Nadroga/Navosa Provincial Council Meeting at the Nasigatoka Hall in Sigatoka Village yesterday.

“Since 2014, your Government has been able to use close to $70million within the Nadroga/Navosa Provincial Council. A bit of it was used to develop Navosa. That was one place that was neglected in the past,” he said.

“We are working together, the Government and the provincial office, we will be able to achieve good things in all of our provinces.”

Today, he added that the province was equal to the rest of the developed communities in Fiji.

“The proof is in what you see today, from the oceanfront to your highlands,” he said.

“There will be a lot of things that opposing political parties will embark on, and there is a simple answer to that. You only have to see what we have done because the evidence is around us.

“It means more than what they will say. Living a good financial life means that people are able to live comfortably, they are able to have good jobs. They will be able to have good times ahead. It means that we will keep bringing down the poverty rate in our country.”

Health System

$38 million was spent on the health system. The Keyasi Hospital was built which caters residents of Noikoro, Nasikawa, Namataku, Bemana, Naqalimare, Navatusila and Nasivikoso in the Ba highlands.

A total of $2.3million for the development of government services such as the Cuvu Health Centre.

$13million was spent to upgrade roads access to the villages of Nabunayanitu, Draubuta, Nawairabi and Motokabi.

Water projects

$4.9million for water projects, for the villagers of Namada, Jubairata and Nabua.

Electrification projects

$4.1million used for electrification and solar projects in villages. $1.5million was used on the electrification project of Waiosi, Nasivikoso and Tau.

$3.7million to build a part of Sigatoka Methodist Secondary School, teachers quarters at St Theresa and Ratu Lalabalavu Secondary School in Malolo and the Bainimarama Primary School.

The Government spent $3.2million for food security programmes under the Sigatoka Development Programme.
