Samuela Rabonu was badged head boy of Vunimono High School alongside his three sisters yesterday.

It was the proudest moment for the 18-year-old. He maintained the leadership legacy of his family.

Samulea never expected to be given the responsibility.

“I have the qualities of becoming a leader, but last year was hard because I was sick,” he said.

“Coping with studies and doing exams was difficult but my motivation to study enabled me to get through.”

His father, Tevita Rabonu, said it was a proud moment for him because all his children were badged together.

His eldest daughter was also badged as a prefect.

“This is because of the community he is brought up in,” he said.

“We have a good interracial community, this is where he learned to mingle with the right group of friends.”

Samuela and head girl, Komal Prasad were honoured to be given the roles respectively for the second time.

Five years ago, they were inducted school head prefects of Krishna Vedic Primary School in Nadali, Nausori.

Komal said a promise made to her mother a few years ago had been fulfilled.

“Once I told my mum in high school that I also had ambitions to get the badge when I saw my seniors getting badged,” she said.

“I have fulfilled that promise today (May 4) and this is a Mother’s Day gift for my mum.”

Komal dedicated her achievements to her parents and said it would not have been possible without their support.

“My father works as a joiner and carpenter and because of COVID-19, he lost his job last year.

“We used to do backyard gardening and I also used to help them get through tough times.”

“My parents never made me feel that I lacked anything,” Komal said.

The duo were among the 94 leaders badged.

The Nausori-based school has a roll of more than 1000 students.
