The 24-member national Under-21 training squad had their first training session with Fijian Pearls head coach Unaisi Rokoura at the FMF Gym, Suva, this morning.

Among them was 15-year-old Alisi Neisulu who is the youngest of the lot.

Neisulu hails from Yavusania in Nadi and shares maternal links to Natauloa, Nairai in Lomaiviti.

She was selected to the squad after the PacAusSports Netball Fiji Youth Championship that was played at the Vodafone Arena, Suva, last month when she played for the Nadi team.

She is a Year 10 student of Adi Cakobau School and plays goal shooter, goal attack and wing attack.

“It feels exciting and I’m proud of reaching this far. I have been working toward it. And I thank my parents for doing that,” she said.

“When I was small I always go with my grandma, she is a wife of a military officer and I used to go with her during all the Sukuna Bowl meets.

“That’s why I started loving netball. As time went by I started going for netball tournaments, my dad always kept pushing me to go for it.”

Neisulu admires Silver Ferns shooter Tiana Metuarau as well as fellow Baby Pearls squad member, Elina Drikibau.

“I came here, I did not realise that I could be with the best elite netball team in Fiji Under-21.

“I also want to represent the Fiji Pearls next.

“It feels good to be among them and to realise at a young age that I can represent Fiji.”

Neisulu indicated her long term goal to play for the Silver Ferns.

The extended squad will have their Saturday weekly training at the FMF Gym until May 28 to prepare for a game against Singapore at the end of the month.
