Lomolomo villagers will no longer need to move around the village area with a phone torch to guide them at night.

This follows the installation of 22 solar street lights by former Fiji resident and now United States of America-based businessman, Bimal Singh.

Mr Singh is the managing director of Conform Group based in California, which has five different companies listed under it.

The Turaga Ni Yavusa Koi Lomolomo, Ratu Peni Senibua said villagers were blessed to finally have some lighting in their Lautoka-based village.

Previously they would walk around the village with torches to find their way.

“We are grateful for this man’s kind heart in coming forward to assist us,” Mr Senibua said.

The village Turaga Ni Koro (headman), Jolame Nailaruwai said the solar project was a first in the last 50 years.

Mr Nailaruwai said when the request was made to Mr Singh, the approval to get the project started commenced immediately.

“The villagers are very happy with our solar street lights project,” Mr Nailaruwai said.

Mr Singh said he never hesitated for a minute when he was asked by the Turaga Ni Koro to install the lights.

“I grew up here in Lomolomo and attended school here with a number of children from the village,” said Mr Singh.

“We are all older now, but have remained friends.

“Lomolomo Village is part of Vuda and they have had no street lights in the village.

“So, I am happy to have made this contribution.”
