Dayanand Anglo Vedic College (DAV) head girl Dilasha Padiyachi has credited her family for her achievements.

Honoured to take up this leadership role, the 17-year-old is ready to fulfil all her duties to the best of her ability.

“Coming from a poor background has taught me great lessons in life,” she said.

“I have seen my parents struggle to get me to where I am today and I am happy that I made my parents proud.”

She said her parents had worked really hard for her to be in school to be able to study and achieve success.

“They are not very educated, but had made sure that I was,” Dilhasa said.

She aspires to become a better person in life and always be there for people.

“No matter what I do, I will always try to help people with the money I earn,” she said.

“I don’t want to see anyone in front of me struggling.

“A leader should lead by example and not be bossy.

“I want to be an inspiration to fellow students and not just tell them what to do, I will do things that I want them to do.”

Head boy Bob Dari, 18, said he didn’t expect to be badged this year.

“I was elated at the appointment,” he said.

“It is indeed an honour that teachers and staff members believed in my capability.

“I dedicate this achievement to my parents.

“My parents were prefects during their school time.

“Even though they faced difficulties in their time due to school fees and transport, they still made it through. Which makes me believe that if they can do it then I can do it too,”he said

The aspiring politician plans to lead by example.

Both head prefects held the deputy position at DAV last year.

The school has a roll of more then 800 students and 180 prefects were badged.
