Super W champions, the Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua women’s rugby side arrived into the country last night.

The family members, friends and staff members of Rooster Chicken were at Nadi International Airport to welcome the team.

In their Super W debut year, the Fijians defied all odds to win the title and were unbeaten throughout the competition.

Then they played for the Rooster Chicken Fijiana XVs in the Tri Series against Japan and Wallaroos.

This is part of their preparations for the Women’s Rugby World Cup, which is from October 8 to November 12.

Head coach Senirusi Seruvakula told SUNsports they had played at a higher level of competition.

He indicated that they were able to gauge their strength and also areas they need to work on before the World Cup.

“We’re looking forward to the Oceania competition and probably another Test match as we build-up for the World Cup,” he said.

“The girls will get some free time this week before we start our World Cup preparations from next week.”

Seruvakula said he would soon announce his extended squad.

“We’ll have a fitness test next Friday. I’ll take it from there as I want to take the best players to the World Cup,” he added.

Captain Bitila Tawake thanked their sponsors’ Rooster Chicken.

“We’ve learnt so much and winning the (Super W) competition was a bonus for us,” she said.
