Waiqele Primary School head boy Josefa Tui always makes sure he is the first student to enter the school premises at 7am daily.

A resident of Kulukulu Settlement, Labasa, he wakes up at 4am to be on time on the road to catch the Rural Service License (RSL) vehicle that will take him to school.

The 13-year- old son of a yaqona farmer said his ambition was to become a Police officer.

“I want to improve the living standard of my family and help the people of Vanua Levu,” Josefa said.

“I will only be able to do that if I have a good job and this leadership position will be an added advantage for my job application.”

The third eldest of five siblings thanked the teachers for acknowledging his effort such as being the first to school.

Head girl of the school, Arshiya Kumar, said she was overwhelmed and felt relieved.

“My father is a teacher in this school and my mother is a pre-school teacher at Waidamudamu Sanatan Dharm Primary School,” Arshiya said.

“My older sibling was the head boy of this school and everyone holds great expectations from me.”

The 13-year-old of Waiqele, Labasa is aspiring to become doctor.

Arshiya believes leadership comes with responsibilities and she was confident to work with 29 prefects, 157 students and nine teachers from pre-school to Year Eight.
