The Denarau golf course is going to be a hive of activity with $130,000 at stake as cash prizes for winners in both professional and amateur categories.

The big cash prizes have attracted 204 golfers including international players to participate in the tenth Sheraton Golf Classics from June 7-11.

Marriott International Cluster marketing executive – Fiji Rahul Southy, said yesterday that the event is the first major golf event at Denarau after three years.

The last time they had the Sheraton event was in 2019.

“The Sheraton Golf Classic has been a resounding success over the past couple of years,” Southy said.

“It is a great opportunity for local golf enthusiasts to be part of the action this time,” he said.

The Sheraton Golf Classic is an International Pro Am team’s tournament, offering over $130,000; $100,000 in the professional category and $100, 000 at stake for amateurs.

The event will be played over four rounds of golf – two rounds at the South Pacific’s 1 championship golf course at Natadola Bay and the other two rounds at the Denarau Golf Racquet Club.

The tournament’s major sponsor is The Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort.

“The tournament has an individual competition for amateurs and professionals, but the emphasis is on teams’ stable ford and gross events.

Each team will be made up of one professional and three amateurs,” he said.

All players will be accommodated at the Sheraton Golf & Beach resort.
