Life was never a bed of roses for Abhishek Aman Swamy.

The Lautoka lad had to ensure he completed his studies because he was a private student.

And it was a proud moment when he had his parents witnessed him graduate with a Bachelor of Network and Security from the University of the South Pacific on Thursday.

The 23-year-old said despite the challenges he made sure his parents’ support was not in vain.

Mr Swamy grew up witnessing his parents struggle to provide for their family.

So, he vowed to one day provide for them and repay their sacrifices.

“It was emotional for me to walk up to the stage to receive my degree, especially knowing that all the challenges failed to stop me,” he said.

“My journey was not an easy one, but it was through hard work and determination I am able to reach this far,” Mr Swamy said.

“It is a rewarding moment. My certificate is not only the testament of my struggles, but also a lesson that we can achieve any goal in life if we put our heart and mind to it,

“I am the youngest of two siblings and my sister graduated with a degree in 2019 so she set the standard.

“My mum is a kindergarten teacher and my dad is a carpenter and also a taxi driver.

“I still can’t believe that I have graduated. Four years is a long time and to be here among other graduates is a dream come true.”

The former Natabua High School student is working as a part time assistant IT administrator at a private manufacturing firm.

“I dedicate this proud moment to my family. I encouraged youths to prioritise their goals and work diligently towards achieving them,” he said.

“Have faith, be realistic when penning down your goals and trust yourself to achieve everything with positive self-esteem.”

Mr Swamy plans to pursue further studies
