For Rajesh Kumar, losing his only son was like losing both his arms.

On Thursday last week, his 33-year-old son, Ravinesh Kumar, a farmer, went to cut wood to fence his farm.

He never returned.

It is alleged that the tree branch he was cutting fell on him causing his death.

This was confirmed by Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro yesterday.

Ms Naisoro said Ravinesh’s body was found near his home at Sabalau in Votualevu, Nadi at around 8pm.

Meanwhile at around 7.30pm on that day, Mr Kumar returned from the shop only to realise that his son was not home.

“Only my daughter-in-law and my two granddaughters were at home. I asked them and they said my son had not come back from cutting wood.

“I went to look for him with some of the villagers. I knew the spot where he used to cut wood to fence his farm.

“I was shocked when I saw my son’s body under the branch, the chainsaw was still on

“I hugged him and I cried. Losing him is just like losing both of my arms,” the emotional father said.

“He is known by the name, Momo. He is a good man and he gets on well with all the people around here.”

Deceased’s wife, Sarita Chand said life wouldn’t be the same for her and her two daughters.

“Who will take care of us? Why does he have to leave us? Our two children are still young. I miss my husband,” she added.

Ms Naisoro has confirmed that a postmortem would be conducted to ascertain the cause of his death.
