A 62-year-old woman of Lagalaga, Labasa has vented her frustrations at the poor response from Police officers stationed at Wainikoro.

She claims the farmhouse was set on fire last Thursday night and Police did not immediately attend to the incident after a complaint was lodged.

Nitya Wati, claims she went to Wainikoro Community Police Post the next day to report a suspect, but the Police officer said he would see her on Monday.

“I live alone in the house but during the time of the incident I was at my neighbour’s house,” Ms Wati said.

“It wasn’t until I contacted my son, Vimal Singh who then made necessary arrangements for police to attend the crime scene on Saturday.”

The mother of three children said it was ridiculous that Police Officers in rural areas fail to serve elderly people when they need it the most.

“I urge big bosses sitting in offices to come down and talk to their officers because they all are paid to serve and protect us,” she said.

“No one likes to be a victim and neither enter the Police Station to give long statements.”

She said the farmhouse was built 11 years ago and valued at around $1500.

Meanwhile, Divisional Police Commander Northern Senior Superintendent of Police Viliame Soko said a team from Labasa Police Station was immediately sent on Saturday after the concern was raised to Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho.

He confirmed that a report was lodged at Wainikoro Community Police Post by the complainant and she would be advised accordingly as investigations began.
