Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Police will not comment following the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) saying it did not sanction a charge in an incident involving a bus driver and Police officer.

The incident involves a Police officer allegedly using force on the bus driver when he was asked of his identification by the Police officer.

It is alleged that the bus driver gave the Police officer inaccurate information. As a result, the bus driver was charged with one count of giving false information to a public servant.

Elvin Ritesh Mani, 30, appeared before Magistrate Senileba Levaci at the Magistrates Court in Labasa on Wednesday.

The video of the incident went viral on social media leading to the Police officer being suspended pending investigation.

When asked yesterday on what Police had to say regarding the sanction not given by DPP, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Police did not wish to comment.

Meanwhile, Ms Naisoro confirmed that Police received a report lodged by a bus driver, who was allegedly assaulted by a Police Officer in Labasa.

Kohli and Singh Solicitors, Ami Kohli also confirmed that his client, the bus driver, reported against Police Constable, Mohammed Zoheb Anwar.

Mr Kohli said he was informed by Police that they would be investigating.
