Yesterday the U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Tony Greubel donated four vehicles worth approximately FJ$487,000 (US $224,000) to the Government of Fiji in a handover ceremony at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Queen Elizabeth Barracks.

Chargé d’affaires Greubel said, “The United States is proud of the partnership that we have built with the Ministry of Defence and Republic of Fiji Military Forces.”

“We commend the RFMF for its ongoing contributions to United Nations Peace Keeping Operations worldwide and are proud to offer these vehicles in support of training operations at Blackrock Camp.”

The four vehicles are part of a Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) package that includes 11 vehicles, two forklifts, and four generators.

Three vehicles and other equipment were handed over earlier this year, and the remaining four vehicles will be delivered in the coming months.

These donations are part of the broader U.S.-Fiji security cooperation that promotes regional peace and stability.

Fiji has provided Republic of Fiji Military Forces to peacekeeping operations for more than 40 years, and these vehicles will be used to help prepare for future missions.

Through GPOI, the United States collaborates with international stakeholders to achieve and sustain operational effectiveness in peace operations and promote international peace and security.

The GPOI mission is to strengthen international capacity and capabilities to execute UN and regional peace operations by enhancing partner countries’ sustainable, self-sufficient peace operations proficiencies and by building the capacity of the UN and regional organizations to conduct such missions.
