The country’s football fraternity mourns the passing away of a former star Vilitati Lee.

This was confirmed by Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel indicating that it was a sad day for football in the country.

Lee represented Lautoka, Suva and Rewa.

He passed away on Wednesday morning at the Suva’s Colonial War Memorial (CWM) Hospital.

“It’s a huge loss,” Patel told Fiji FA Media.

“He (Lee) had been a great footballer and an inspirational leader at his time.

“I convey my heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to his grieving family and I pray to the Almighty that his soul may rest in peace.

“It’s indeed a sad day for Fiji FA as he was inducted into Fiji FA Legends Club two weeks ago.”

Lee also represented Fiji in basketball, hockey and snooker.

In football, he played together with the likes of Onnie Wong, Nicholas Rounds, Gordon Leewai, John Krishna Chotka, Jimmy Zoing, Narayan Sami, Habib Buksh and the late Kavaia Naborisi.

Lee, Wong, Naborisi and Rounds played for Rewa in 1970.

He was the coach and captain of the Rewa side that won the 1972 Interdistrict Championship. Lee was part of the national football team in 1973 that first played in the Oceania Football Championship (OFC) in Auckland, New Zealand.
