Selecting a team for Nadi to participate at the inaugural Fiji Netball Men’s Championship was not an easy task for coach, Vilikesa Driu.

Despite training for about two weeks, he indicated that they came to win as they are one game away from winning the tournament.

The Nadi Sunshine side beat Suva Knights 29-26 in the semi-final at the Vodafone Arena. They will face Suva Warriors in the final at 2.45pm.

“For us, it was difficult because the tournament was called on such a short notice,” Driu said.

“Regarding my boys, we have been there. We have done and I feel so proud of them.

“We came to win. I told the boys that there is always something good behind every challenge.”

Driu who is also Nadi Netball Association president looks forward to starting a regular men’s club competition.

“We have not started, so now we are trying to commit to men’s netball.

“About 35 men were drafted into the Nadi extended squad. Some of the players were from Suva clubs like Tiki and Tagimoucia.

“We are quite fortunate for them to be released to play for Nadi. Also for Suva for giving us a good competition,” he added.

“I think it’s about time, we have been here but we have not been recognised”
