Naitasiri Secondary Sets Rugby League Target

The Naitasiri Secondary School Under-19 side hope to finish in the top eight of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League competition, this year.
They have been participating in the competition for the past four years. This year the school also fielded their U15 and U19 teams.
Team manager Rusiate Talebulamai said their U19 grade had a good start in holding Ratu Kadavulevu School 8-8 in the first round of competition.
“Most of these under-19 teams have 17 and 18-year-olds playing for them,” he said.
“Rugby league has been developed from the younger grades.
“These Naitasiri students have the raw talent. But we need to tap their skills so they can develop their knowledge on rugby league.
They are learning more. Our goal is to reach the quarterfinals.”
Talebulamai indicated a major challenge they faced was getting the team to train together since most of the players live far from the school.
However, they are able to get their team to participate in Suva every week.
“We also need financial support to bring these boys over to Suva to play,” he added.
