Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has reminded Dudley Intermediate School prefects to set good examples that uphold integrity and values of the institution they lead and people they serve.

He made these remarks last Friday during the school’s prefect induction ceremony.

“The three values I believe are important to nurture are respect, humility and confidence to be delivered from the heart,” he said.

“We need to ensure that we think, act and do everything with humility for rules, laws, obligation, and respect for others, for culture and tradition and confidence in yourself and others around you.

“Your school motto “God first” is an excellent start to moulding a good leader.”

He reminded students leaders on the art of listening and how it could help enhance their leadership qualities.

“As leaders, we must also learn to perfect the art of listening because we can always learn from those around us including our peers,” he said.

“Effective listening gives you knowledge and perspective that increases your leadership capacity.”

“Being open to feedback and new ideas helps you learn and grow as a leader.”

The school’s head prefects were excited to be inducted by the President.

For them, it was a day they would never forget.

Head Girl, Silivia Vasu, was happy to be badged head prefect a second time.

“I was also the head girl of Suva Methodist Primary School and also a deputy head girl of Dudley Intermediate School,” she said.

“My family motivated me to pursue leadership qualities and I want to be a role model.”

She dedicated her achievement to her late father, Samuela Vasukinatavea.

Head Boy, Yisrael Tukania, said his inspiration is Fiji 7s rugby player Jerry Tuwai.

“Jerry is a humble person who inspired me to go through hard times,” he said.

“I have been a member of Eastern Saints Rugby Club and I also want to become the best rugby player when I grow up.”

As a leader he wants to instill discipline in school.
