30 Food Vendors Hire Stalls, Council Eyes 100

The Lautoka City Council anticipates roping in at least 100 vendors to sell food at the Carnival Grounds in Lautoka during Saturday’s Super Rugby Pacific match featuring the Fijian Drua and New Zealand Chiefs.

The council’s head of services, Deepak Lal, said so far 30 food stalls have been hired.

These were by residents from Lautoka including Suva and other parts of the country.

Mr Lal said the 30 food stalls had been marked, but the council still had provision to construct another 70 food stalls.

He said when the council first advertised, 15 bookings were received to hire food stalls while another 15 had booked that same week.

He said it was incredible to see the hype and excitement with the food stall vendors who had already placed their bookings.

“We are waiting for other stakeholders to come in and the space at the Carnival Grounds can cater for more than 100 food stalls,” Mr Lal said.

“The excitement and hype up in vendors is there and they know the crowd will be there.”

Ten juice and roti stalls have been hired so far while 20 individuals hired food stalls.

The juice and roti food stalls were on hire for $50 while the food stalls were on hire for $150.

“We have interest from vendors outside Lautoka but majority are from Lautoka,” he said.
