Teary-eyed welcome was the order of greetings for returnees from Australia, as they met with local hospitality at the Sheraton Resort and Spa, Tokoriki.

Aussie couple, Tony and Virginia Talei Russell Jones, were no exception, as they arrived at the resort yesterday.

The resort closed two years ago and was the fourth of Marriott International Fiji properties to reopen, since the recommencement of international travel to Fiji last year.

“We are excited to be back here, on this beautiful island,” said Mrs Russell-Jones.

“The welcome was amazing.”

“We could hear the singing from the boat – it got me teary to see everyone clapping, as we arrived in this paradise.”

Mrs Russell-Jones was born in New Zealand, but to Fijian parents.

The couple had visited Fiji on eight occassions in the past.

Their most recent visit was three years ago.

The couple are in the county for two weeks, one that they have described as too short.

“We have five nights here, with beautiful people, before we spend another four nights at Denarau,” Mrs Russell-Jones, said.

Housekeeping staff member, Kalivero Satala, 28, is among the 160 staff back at work, on the property.

The Malolo, Nadroga native, has been employed at the resort since 2018.

Multi property Vice President– Fiji and Samoa, Marriott International and general manager of Westin and Sheraton Resorts, Fiji Complex, Neeraj Chadha, said they were proud to re-open.

“The resort offers a true escape and is one of our most sought-after holiday experiences for couples and families visiting Fiji,” he said.

Sheraton Resort and Spa Tokoriki Island, Hotel Manager, Mitchell Goff, said the full resort team waited to welcome their first guests back.

He said the resort offered 101 guest suites for travellers seeking an island paradise getaway.
