Almost 90  per cent of members of the Fiji Police Force have undergone necessary training to ensure law and order prevails during the 2022 General Election.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Itendra Nair said the training was important because officers must understand what was required of them at polling hubs and polling venues.

He said the training was done so officers understood their roles and responsibilities.

“We have done a pocket sized hand book with FAQ- frequently asked questions for the elections the officers are equipped with,” he said.

“About 90 per cent of our officers have been trained now and we are going into the second round of the routine policy and function will be carried out for the 10 per cent who missed out.

“We are pretty sure that come the assembly line on the day of the election, 100 per cent of our officers are well equipped,” he said.

“The other aspect is making sure some of our facilities that may be used as polling hubs are up and ready by our building maintenance unit.”

Each of the polling stations will have two officers present to ensure law and order are maintained.
