Taking on a leadership role is the perfect step to her career as a lawyer, says Namaka Public School head girl, Melaia Bai.

The Year 8 student hopes to be a good role model to her fellow 1222 schoolmates.

The 12-year-old was inducted last Friday with Li Ao named as head boy of the school.

“I am grateful for the support of teachers and my parents who have been my pillar of support in all aspects,” she said

“When I was chosen I was filled with mixed emotion knowing that a new journey of responsibility is ahead of me.

“This leadership role is the right step for me in my ambition to become a lawyer.”

Head boy, Li Ao, whose father is a fisherman, said the struggles he experienced at home had always inspired him to achieve greater things in life.

“Being chosen as head boy is a dream come true.

“My parents are both unemployed. My dad goes out fishing in order to support the family. I am an only child,” he said.

“The struggles that I go through have pushed me to study, work hard and achieve greater things in life. I am grateful to my teacher for trusting me with this responsibility.”

Chief guest, Commissioner Western Mesake Ledua reminded the prefects that their new roles would come with responsibilities and they must be good role models to their colleagues.

Head teacher, Arvin Kumar reminded the students to maintain the school culture and be fair and honest with their responsibilities.
