“Our people working at the Sheraton and that includes our core value of putting people first they have the best facilities available for them, best resources available for them.”

He said the tourism recovery team worked relentlessly to make sure that the resort opened up to take care of guests.

“Fiji is open for happiness,” he added.

The Area Vice President, Australia, New Zealand and pacific for Marriott International, Sean Hunt said the 34-year-old resort brought happiness amongst everyone.

The A-G said from an economic perspective and overall growth protection perspective in the tourism sector, the opening was critically important to Fiji’s economy.

“For us it is critically important from the strategic perspective to ensure that we have very good timings with our national carrier which is Fiji Airways that it continues to also open up the markets,” he said.

“There is more opportunities to go into new source markets.”

“A lot more opportunities for tourists to enjoy fiji more to get them to spend more money in Fiji when we have low activity, low participation for example the local economy, the villages, tours, that’s really important for us.”
