Chinese Ambassador Qian Bo says, China has no hidden agenda when it comes to Fiji or other Pacific countries.

Mr Qian said Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi’s visit was a success because it was a mission of peace, friendship, and cooperation.

He said it was unfair for other countries to think that China has hidden agendas for Pacific countries.

“They are trying to politicise our relationship with the Pacific countries. When you look at our relationship with Fiji we have never raised any concerns when they have a relationship with other countries,” Mr Qian said.

“When you are genuine, which makes us confident about our future with the Pacific countries because we have no hidden agenda and China will always be a friend of Fiji and other Pacific countries.

“The relationship between China and Pacific countries is mutual respect and common development.

“The main purpose of China helping Pacific countries is because we are a developing country. Our policy is to always support developing countries and to promote stability and prosperity.

Win-win

“We trust in a win-win cooperation. True multilateralism is when you respect everyone and are also open and inclusive. Our Foreign Minister came to listen and engage and to find out what are the priority areas the Pacific countries are focusing on and what we can do.”

He said China was happy to work in a trilateral with other countries to help the Pacific countries.

“Chinese Foreign Minister’s visit was timely and helpful while building our relationship and taking it to a new height.” Mr Qian said.

“We strongly believe that China and all the developing countries including Pacific nations can achieve common development. This is certainly beneficial to the justice, harmony and stability of the world.

“Developing countries have a lot in common so there are a lot of things we can do together. We will continue to support the Pacific countries.

“China’s Position Paper on Mutual Respect and Common Development with Pacific Island Countries has proposals by China for the next stage of cooperation released.“China is committed to deepen its comprehensive strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development with Pacific Island Countries, so as to build a closer China-Pacific Island Countries community with a shared future.”
