Lautoka City Council To Increase Seating Capacity

Lautoka City Council is working to increase seating capacity and upgrading other facilities at the Churchill Park.
This followed last week’s Super Rugby Pacific match between the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and the Chiefs which was sold out of 11,000 spectators.
Council chief executive officer, Mohammed Anees Khan said the council anticipated more major rugby tournaments at Churchill Park in future.
“Knowing that the Drua will be based in Fiji next season, we anticipate a few games to be hosted at Churchill Park,” said Khan.
“For that we have already started to look at increasing seating capacity at Churchill Park and also upgrading other services like changing rooms, washroom facilities and other facilities.”
He said it was a wonderful opportunity for the council to host the Western Division’s first Super Rugby match.
Khan added that it took the council and stakeholders more than a month of preparation.
“It was an overwhelming experience for the council to host the first ever Super Rugby fixture at Churchill Park with over four weeks of preparatory work which went in to get the venue ready,” he said.
“We worked very closely with the Drua team management to get the facilities in shape expected for this kind of event.”
