Arrest Of Second Robbery Suspect Pleases Savusavu Shop Owner

A mini supermarket owner in Savusavu is happy that the Fiji Police Force was able to arrest a second suspect who allegedly robbed the shop on May 26.

The first suspect was arrested earlier, charged and remanded in police custody as investigations continue.

Varshna Kiran of Buca in Savusavu said the alleged incident left the family traumatised.

However, she was confident the police officers would catch the suspects because the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team was active in their investigation process.

“I finally feel relieved that both suspects are in police custody.”

“I also hope that police will be able to make some cash recovery that was allegedly stolen from my shop,” Ms Kiran said.

Ms Kiran claimed she lost close to $1200 in the alleged robbery.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the second suspect was arrested, following a collaboration between officers between Savusavu and Tukuvesi Police Station.

The second suspect, believed to be in his 30s, was arrested last Friday at Kanakana Village during a late-night raid.

Ms Naisoro said the man was one of the two suspects who allegedly threatened the shop employees on May 26 with a cane knife before fleeing with cash.

Ms Kiran plans to address the security concerns at her property by installing security grills at the counter serving space and the booth’s entrance.

She now employs a security officer full-time from Monday to Sunday.
